The Department of Corrections has a variety of nursing positions for their facilities. 

• Correctional Nurses 
  • Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional  setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act and Nevada Revised Statutes.
• Psychiatric Nurses
  • Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act. 
• Licensed Practical Nurses
  • Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) provide general or psychiatric practical nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act. 
• Certified Nursing Assistants
  • Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) perform basic restorative services and basic nursing services which are directed at the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, basic mental health and protection of patient rights in accordance with the Patient’s Bill of Rights and within the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.

The Department of Corrections also provides many counseling and case worker position to help guide inmates. 

• Correctional Counselors
  • Corrections Counselors within in the Nevada Department of Corrections provide mental health services to offenders in a correctional setting including interviews, behavioral planning and implementation, consultation, psycho-educational classes, research, and training. 
• Correctional Case Worker Specialists
  • Correctional Casework Specialists perform duties involving the evaluation and classification of individual  inmates incarcerated within State correctional  facilities; maintain a comprehensive record of  each inmate  regarding personal data, legal data, criminal history, institutional adjustment, program needs, program achievements, classification history  and rule infractions as stipulated under  NRS Chapter 209; evaluate, develop and implement plans for  inmate program participation.  

Criminal Investigators

• Criminal Investigators are with the Office of the Inspector General, this position assists in the facilitation and oversight of the Department’s Community Transition Program. Responsibilities include monitoring approved offenders assigned to the program; reviewing and approving offender applications and sponsors; monitoring participants through approved technologies and in-person compliance checks; and conducting random inspections and searches of program participants. This position also conducts both criminal and administrative investigations, including interviews and interrogations, executing search and arrest warrants, and conducting and documenting surveillance operations. 

The Department of Corrections offers a wide variety of positions that fall under the skilled trades. They also provide on the job training with the position of a Skilled Trades Apprentice.
