Highway Maintenance Workers are certified by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) to operate a variety of complex or specialized highway maintenance and construction equipment to restore and maintain the integrity of roadway surfaces; maintain roadside slopes, shoulders, culverts, and ditches to restore drainage and prevent erosion; and repair or replace related roadway appurtenances such as guardrails, markers, guideposts, and fences.

Highway Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify medium (GVWR 10,500-26,000 lbs.) and heavy (GVWR greater than 26,000 lbs.) highway maintenance and construction equipment including single and tandem axle dump trucks, motor graders, chip spreaders, truck mounted backhoes, twin diesel powered rotary snow blowers, ten wheel water trucks, front end loaders, tractor/trailer combinations and pavement grinding machines.

Engineering Technicians perform a broad range of duties involving technical engineering work in support of professional engineers, including drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials and soils testing, construction inspection, roadway design, right-of-way engineering, planning, permitting and inspection, water rights appropriation, and land acquisition in support of civil or related professional engineering work.  Work requires the application of technical engineering skills, methods, and practices in compiling technical data, drafting, computer-aided software, operating specialized equipment, and preparing engineering-related documents.

Review Appraisers prepare and review appraisals for transportation projects, appraise residential, commercial, industrial, or other special purpose property, and assist with establishing values for property management functions.

Transportation Planner/Analysts participate in transportation system analysis, a continuing, comprehensive, and cooperative planning process, research programs or projects, safety programs, and/or related functional areas as mandated by, and within the guidelines of, federal, state, and local authorities; monitor, develop, and implement State and federal funding and programming/planning requirements and ensure compliance with federal funding requirements.

Traffic Center Technicians are located within District Traffic Operations Centers; operate in a 24/7 environment and facilitate the exchange of information required to maintain the safe and reliable operation of the state roadways while providing information to travelers; operate, control, and conduct routine tests of traffic software, signs, and devices; record and track data; prepare reports; communicate with road crews to obtain and provide information.
