NDOT's headquarters building is located in Carson City, with the three main district offices located in Las Vegas, Reno and Elko. The department is responsible for the planning, construction, operation, and maintenance of the 5,400 miles of highway and over 1,000 bridges that make up Nevada’s state highway system.

District 1 covers southern Nevada, with headquarters in Las Vegas, and a major maintenance station in Tonopah.

District 2 covers northwest Nevada, with headquarters in Sparks.

District 3 covers northeast Nevada, with headquarters in Elko, and major maintenance stations in Winnemucca and Ely.

The districts are responsible for supervising all state highway construction and maintenance activities within their local areas. From snow removal, roadway patching, and restriping to partnering with law enforcement for incident traffic control and more, NDOT maintenance forces perform nearly 75 different types of road maintenance tasks. NDOT district construction staff oversee the administration of highway construction projects, and district operations, engineering, and administration staff help oversee the operations of highways in the region.
